8 reasons to love Macrium Reflect 8

Macrium Reflect 8 will be launched very soon. As it’s Valentine’s Day this month, we thought it would make sense to highlight the many different things you’ll love about the new version.

Whether you’re new to Macrium or an experienced and loyal user, with free upgrades available to all purchases made now we’re confident that you’ll find at least one reason to love Reflect 8.

Sure, it might be strange to fall in love with your backup software — but if you’ve ever found yourself in a crisis, you’ll recognise just how much of a lifesaver simple, reliable, and fast backup can be. How could you not love it?

Dark mode and redeveloped UI

Over the years, we’ve come to fully appreciate the importance of user experience. It can be hard to recognise when your engineering focus is on reliability, and recovery, but speaking with thousands of customers from around the world, it’s clear that style and substance do indeed go hand in hand.

That’s why we’ve redeveloped the Reflect UI and added a dark mode option to Reflect 8. Not only is it now easier to find your way around the Reflect interface, you also have the option of different displays.

We think these changes will not only make the software more user friendly and accessible, it will also help you to perform backup and data protection tasks with greater confidence.

Automatic partition resizing

Dealing with conflicting partition sizes can cause some real headaches when it comes to cloning and imaging. When you’re trying to move valuable data from one place to another that can cause considerable anxiety.

And, aside from that, having to resize partitions is also a bit of an arduous task that prevents you from getting up and running on a new system or with a new machine.

Automatic partition is an exciting new feature for Reflect 8 that we know will make many users happy. It turns what could sometimes be a bit of a fiddly task into something that you simply don’t even need to worry about.

VirtualBox support for viBoot

viBoot has been one of the most popular and attractive features of the business versions of Reflect for years. This is because it allows you to boot an image into a virtual machine in a matter of seconds.

However, previously this was only possible using a Hyper-V virtual machine. Although widely used, it meant that only certain specialist users could benefit from viBoot’s impressive power. However, because VirtualBox is accessible to home users, it’s now easy for everyone to take advantage of viBoot’s impressive speed.

Intra daily backups

If you’re dealing with dynamic and fast-changing data you need to be able to take regular and consistent backups of your data at intervals of hours, not days. That’s why we’ve been working hard to make intra daily backups part of the Reflect 8 release.

Lots of users have been asking for this — we can now ensure that Macrium will give you flexibility and peace of mind to manage even the most rapidly changing sets of data.

Future-proofed for the future of hardware

Here’s something that unlike many other Reflect 8 features hasn’t necessarily been part of our conversations with users: ReFS support.

To many readers that might not mean a great deal, but we believe that ReFS could become a more dominant filesystem as the hardware market evolves in the years to come. This means that ReFS support is essential in future-proofing Macrium Reflect.

Backup software can’t be beholden to fads, and it needs to be built to last. Now we’ve added ReFS support both home and business users can be confident that when they buy Macrium, they’re buying something that will last, however their machines change.

Support for removable flash

Usability isn’t just an issue of UI — when it comes to backup it’s also ingrained in how software interacts with hardware. In the past users have been restricted in how they can use Macrium backup — without support for ExFAT, the filesystem on which flash media is built, it has not been possible to perform backups and restores using that particular strand of removable devices.

That never really made much sense. We know that while backup needs to be secure and reliable first and foremost, it also needs to be adaptable to different users preferences and needs. By adding ExFAT support, it’s now possible to use removable flash media with Macrium Reflect.

Support for SD cards

And one other thing — ExFAT support also means that Macrium Reflect will now work with SD cards as well. Like flash media, SD cards offer an easy way to store data, so it just made sense for us to ensure that they’re compatible with Reflect.

The same helpful Macrium support

Although there are lots of new and exciting features in Reflect 8 one thing will stay the same: friendly, knowledgeable and rapid support.

Of course, that should go without saying when it comes to software: but we know how much our users love working with our support team, especially when solving new and surprising problems.
