IT Works in Scotland have been using Macrium for a number of years to ensure their clients’ desktops and servers are protected should disaster strike. They were one of the first of Macrium’s resellers to trial the new central management console and Martin Paul from IT Works has some great feedback on this fantastic new tool from Macrium Software.

Shedding light on risks
Martin was pleased that the interface allowed IT Works to quickly and easily shed light on any potential risks and let them know when anything has failed and keep quiet when it hasn’t!
Martin has been particularly impressed by the software updates.
“With any other software updates, there is a 50% chance it may fail and break. But I can trust Macrium updates every time. It is incredibly quick, in fact no other software updates are quite as fast!”
For IT Works, CMC offers them a new commercial opportunity to push out to their client base with a solution that works effectively and easily. Martin and the team at IT Works are looking forward to completing their training.

Globally our hard work has been paying off as we celebrate double digit sales growth this year. The US market is particularly strong for us and we’re excited to be searching for a new office location in Boston, which will be our first office in the US. Our Sales Director, Stephen Macpherson, recently popped over the pond to spend some time with our distributor Prianto and will soon be hiring a local team to support our partners and manage all in-territory sales opportunities. We continue to be overwhelmed with the positive feedback we are given from resellers in the US, some of whom have been advocates of Macrium for several years. Last week was a busy one as we alternated between ‘slapping’ USBs on visitors to IP Expo Manchester and then enjoyed a day shooting clay pigeons at a fantastically run Prianto UK reseller’s event.
The team at Macrium started the week by descending on IP Expo Manchester en masse as we spoke to the hundreds of visitors looking for a reliable and fast backup and recovery solution. Our Sales Director Stephen Macpherson delivered a presentation on Defence Against the Dark Arts which was very well received by a packed theatre, so full that it was standing room only! We also had lots of fun slapping our ever popular USB sticks onto delegates.
After Manchester, we whizzed back down south to the Royal Berkshire Shooting School where we donned our flat caps and sponsored Prianto UK’s reseller event. Much fun was had as we attempted to shoot at clay ‘rabbits’ and tried our luck at hard overhead shots. It was really great to meet some existing and potential resellers, especially as we look at further developing our UK partner programme.

Recently we decided to ask our Macrium Valued Reseller partners for their views on the backup industry, along with the challenges and changes they face. We were overwhelmed with responses from over 20 different countries!
There were some really interesting results that popped out, some expected, some not and some very ugly data disasters! Not surprisingly over 70% stated that they offer Backup as a Service and a large number mentioned hardware and hard drive fails as the reason behind data loss. It was scary however just how many questioned stated that backups had failed or in a fair number of cases, their clients had no backup in the first place!
Whether or not cloud is the ‘holy grail’ generated some differing opinions when asked about current and future trends. Many expressed concern with the limitations and time taken to download backups. The trend seems to be a hybrid of both cloud and on-premise backups for full protection.
Then we get to some of the worse data disasters that resellers have seen. Everything from expensive databases lost to malware and lightning strikes, our resellers have seen it all!
“The client’s building burnt down. He did not have off site backup, instead he relied on a local backup to an external HDD which was kept in a fireproof safe on premise every night. The safe unfortunately was not waterproof. In putting out the fire, the fire department flooded the safe, damaging the external HDD. We had to send the drive out for professional data recovery, costing the client thousands of dollars in expenses, on top of lost productivity for the two weeks it took to recover the data.”
