Reflect 8 Free is out now!

Reflect 8 Free perfectly encapsulates the Macrium ethos. Sure, we could have released a less-complete version months ago, but that’s just not how we do things. Instead, we took the time to validate the codebase on the new Windows 11 platform, and waited until our new and improved language localization was in place. The good news is that Reflect 8 Free will be released on the 5th of November, 2021.

Why we have a free edition

From the very start, Macrium has always been committed to the idea that every person has the right to protect their data for free. No tricks, no bait and switch, just good, honest, reliable software. We believe wholeheartedly in the quality of our product that we want to make it as easy as we can for you to try it, trust it, and ensure your valuable data is safe and secure.

While Reflect Free doesn’t cost you a penny, it does cost us time, money, and energy to maintain, improve, and support. An average of 10,000 new installations a day is not an insignificant amount, after all! Our ability to continue offering robust and feature-rich free backup and recovery software is supported by our paying customers, many of whom started with our free version only to upgrade to the full edition. In that way, it’s very easy to see Reflect Free as part of a greater community.

Our software speaks for itself. That’s why you’ll never see a hard sell here at Macrium, just encouragement to trial our full versions and opportunities to purchase at a discount.

What’s new in Reflect 8 Free

New 'Existing Backups' & Log view. What used to be the ‘Restore’ view has been replaced with a much more scalable and navigable interface. See more here.

Improved backup file name functionality. New run time parameters enable dynamic information to be included in backup file names at run time. For more information see here.

Removable media Imaging and Cloning / exFAT file system support. Flash drives and SD cards can now be imaged and cloned as regular internal disk drives. The exFAT file system commonly found on larger flash drives is now also supported. More details here.

PE 11. Rescue media can now be built on WinPE 11. This uses the Win11 kernel and includes updated inbox drivers for better hardware support.

Localisations. An unadvertised feature of Reflect 8 is a new localisation framework. German, Japanese, Russian and French are included with the first Reflect 8 Free release, with more on the way.

Will it run on my computer? How do I upgrade?

In nearly all cases, yes. For reasons outside our control, Reflect 8 is incompatible with Windows Vista 64 bit and Windows 2008 Server 64 bit. Please read this article for more details. To upgrade, follow the instructions here

Can I continue to use Reflect 7 Free?

Yes, of course. Note however, that Reflect 7 is now in extended support and will cease receiving updates beyond May 2022.

Changes to the EULA

We are committed to continued availability of Reflect Free for commercial use. However, we have added a condition, namely there is a limit of 10 concurrent installs across any one organization. This applies to both Reflect 8 and future updates of Reflect 7.
